Suwon Samsung and FC Seoul are set for a rivalry derby at a crucial time.
Suwon and Seoul will go head-to-head in the 29th round of the Hana OneQ K League 1 2023 on September 2 at 4:30 p.m. at Suwon World Cup Stadium. Suwon currently sits in 11th place in the league with 22 points, while Seoul is in 5th place with 40 points.
Both teams meet their rivals at a time when they need to rebound. First, Suwon escaped from the bottom of the league last time out thanks to a late goal from Boultuis against Jeju United, but failed to continue the momentum against Gwangju FC. Instead, they suffered a 0-4 defeat that completely derailed their momentum. The good news for Suwon is that fellow bottom club Gangwon FC was unable to close the gap as they lost to Suwon FC and then drew with the Pohang Steelers.
That doesn’t mean they can rest easy, though. Only one point separates the two teams. Depending on the outcome of the Round 29 match, Suwon could drop back to the bottom of the table. They need a win to keep the gap with Gangwon and catch up to Suwon FC.
With nowhere to turn, they face their biggest rival, Seoul. Suwon have lost both of their matches against Seoul this season. Their last win came in a supermatch at the Sangam World Cup Stadium last September. On top of that, Seoul has made a change with acting head coach Kim Jin-gyu following the departure of former head coach Ahn Ik-soo, and the team is, in Kim’s words, “poisoned”.
That’s not to say Seoul won’t be under pressure. The rivalry derby comes at a crucial time for Seoul. After climbing as high as second place at the start of the season, Seoul’s recent slump has seen them drop to fifth place and find themselves in a tight mid-table battle. They are now level on points with sixth-place Incheon United and three points behind eighth-place Daejeon Hana Citizens. A loss in round 29 could see them slip into the bottom half of the table, depending on how other teams perform.
Aside from the impact of the rivalry derby on the mood of the teams, the upcoming SuperMatch is quite important for both teams. Fans of both teams recognized this and started buying tickets in droves as soon as the presale opened. 온라인카지노
According to Suwon officials, 18,000 tickets have been sold so far. Suwon’s largest home crowd this season was at the Super Match on June 24, when the official attendance was 19,513. The official said that this is expected to be the biggest crowd for the Big Bird this season, as it is already over 3,000 more than the previous Super Match.
